Happy New Year. Is that a picture of Melbourne?

Yes, it is a stock photo that I found. It is taken from Southbank looking across the Yarra River to Flinders Street Station with the spire of our St Paul’s Cathedral across from it. Melbourne can look quite lovely when she wants to.
A couple of bits of trivia.
The story is (possibly an urban myth) that the architecture of Flinders Street Station is so grand, with its dome, because the plans were mixed up and we got the railway station intended for Mumbai.
The bridge on the right of the image is Princes Bridge which was designed by John Grainger, the father of the composer Percy Grainger.

Thanks Catherine. I have walked over the bridge a few times, but the photo was from a low viewpoint and I wasnt sure. I really loved Melbourne – first place I visited in Australia.

It is supposed to be the most ‘European’ of the Australian cities. And it has a proper winter.
I really like Hobart too.
