My Oedipus Complex and Other Stories by Frank O’Connor
Some kids are cissies by nature but I was a cissie by conviction.

I was unable to find a review of this book. Frank O’Connor (Michael Francis O’Donovan – 1903-1966) was an Irish writer whose short stories are set in Ireland. A number of the stories in this collection are told from the perspective of a child and have an autobiographical element. All are sharply observed reflections on his society at the time he was writing and of the messiness and ambiguities of ordinary life. I first read this collection in 1987 and it is just as enjoyable on a second reading after all this time. The most delightful story in the book is First Confession which can be read here. If you enjoy it, do try to get hold of the book itself.
